CleanTech Research and Development

Clean energy, measured, analysed and predicted

Green Power Labs provides analytics for energy resource assessment, power forecasting and predictive energy management across grids, buildings, and cities.

About us

Models validated against measured production

We combine satellite imagery, numerical weather prediction and measured production history into site-level output predictions. Every model is evaluated against metered output and reported with the error statistics operators actually use.

Our project experience spans clean energy plants, transmission and distribution grids, buildings, and related critical infrastructure. We work for governments and utilities, independent power producers, real estate operators, and research partners.

Capabilities

Five problems we work on

Solar resource map of Nova Scotia, shading average annual insolation from low in the southwest to high in the northeast.

Smart solar

Accurate, current multi-layered data allows for optimal design, build and operation of solar power plants.

A glass-fronted commercial office building lit from within at dusk.

Smart buildings

Integrated site specific approach to energy consumption, generation and management increases thermal comfort and reduces risks and long term operating costs.

Chart of 15-minute load averages over three days, plotting net load, PV power and total load against each other.

Smart grid

Integrated analytics based on real time forecasts allows for effective, optimal supply and demand management.

Map of solar hot water potential in MWh per year across the buildings of a university campus.

Smart cities

Effective urban energy planning improves energy security, attracts and retains citizens and supports climate change initiatives.

Map of Canada tracing an HVDC transmission corridor from British Columbia east to Newfoundland, marking converter stations along it.

Smart infrastructure

High Voltage Direct Current based supergrids present a key part of Critical Infrastructure enabling provincial and regional reliability, resilience and energy security.
